Gloucestershire County Epee & Sabre - Open - Championships (AKA GAFU)
For 2024 the competition has been split, by weapon, across two consecutive weekends:
Dates:
Epee - Saturday 20th January 2024, 1pm - 7pm
Sabre - Saturday 27th January, 1pm - 5pm
Location: Oasis Academy Brightstowe, Penpole Lane, Shirehampton BS11 0EB (Enter through main car park)
Events:
Senior Epee SE24 (Registration at 1pm)
Age Group: 13 and up
Senior Sabre SS24 Registration at 1pm)
Age Group: 13 and up
Format for both: Poule Unique*
Entries to be capped at 32. A minimum of eight places are reserved for women fencers; to be allocated to anyone on the waiting list if not taken up by one week before the relevant competition.
Prizes: Winner’s trophies plus medals for the top 3 in each event.
Refreshments: Hot and cold drinks and a selection of snacks will be provided.

Message from the organiser: We aim to make this competition as inclusive and enjoyable as possible for the greatest number of fencers. One of the main causes of discontent and frustration in competitions of this level is disagreement about the application of the rules. We believe the simplest and fairest solution is to adhere strictly to the rules as mandated by the FIE. The most relevant are available here.
